Years at East Lake

Christ Church began as a church plant in 1973, where church members gathered together in a mobile home for worship, prayer, communion, and study of the Scriptures. Since then, we have grown as a church family in many distinct ways.

In 2008 our church leadership team met to pray and discern where God was leading us as a church family. After much reading of the Bible and praying, the team concluded that Christ Church exists to:

  • Glorify God
  • Treasure Jesus Christ
  • Love others
  • Make disciples of all peoples

The primary expression of our mission is threefold:

  1. Equip 150 Disciple Makers Engaged in Making Disciples Who Make Disciples
  2. Send 100 Missionaries to the Nations
  3. Plant 1,300 Churches Around the World

Christ Church has also committed to serve the East Lake Community for the Next 25 Years.

On October 23, 2022, the members of Christ Church voted with 230 YES to 12 NO to seek disaffiliation from the United Methodist Church. The voting members also voted 226 YES to 5 NO to join the Global Methodist Church.

As of December 10, 2022, Christ Church Birmingham officially disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church and joined the Global Methodist Church.

What We Believe

The Bible Has Authority

The sole basis of our beliefs is the Bible, the 66 canonical books of the Old and New Testaments. The Bible is the Word of God, fully true. It is our final authority in all matters of faith, practice, and lifestyle. (2 Timothy 3:16)

Jesus is Lord

Jesus Christ is 100% God and yet 100% man, born of the Virgin Mary. (Colossians 2:9)

Jesus Paid Our Penalty

Thou all mankind has sinned and deserves eternal separation from God, Jesus Christ died on the cross as our substitute, taking upon Himself the penalty for our sins.

God Exists In Three Persons

There is one true God, existing eternally in three Persons who are of one substance, full of supreme power and glory: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:26, Isaiah 9:6, John 1:1-14, Acts 5:3-4)

Jesus Defeated Death

Three days after his crucifixion, Jesus arose from the dead in His body, which had been laid in the tomb, defeating both sin and death.

Salvation Comes Through Faith

A person can only be saved from the condition of sin and spiritual death by the grace of God, experiencing the free gift of new birth by placing his or her personal faith in Jesus Christ.

Jesus Will Come Again

Jesus Christ will return, at a date undisclosed by Scripture, to judge the living and the dead. Those who have received the gift of salvation will spend eternity with Christ. Those who have rejected the gift of salvation will be condemned to eternal separation from God.
