Position Summary
Reports To: Children’s Ministry Director / Associate Children’s Minister
Status: Part-Time / $15.45 per Hour
Location: Christ Church Birmingham, Birmingham, AL
The Church Nursery Worker is responsible for providing a safe, loving, and nurturing environment for infants and toddlers during church services (including holidays) and events. This role involves supervising children, engaging them in age-appropriate activities, and ensuring a clean and welcoming nursery space.
Responsibilities
Greet and receive children from parents/guardians; ensure secure check-in/check-out procedures.
Supervise and care for children aged 0–5 years during Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, or special events.
Engage children with age-appropriate toys, books, music, and activities.
Occasionally lead children’s lessons.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized nursery environment.
Attend children's basic needs, such as feeding, diapering, and comforting when upset.
Communicate any incidents, illnesses, or concerns with parents and supervisors.
Follow all church policies, including safety, emergency procedures, and child protection policies.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Collaborate with other nursery workers and volunteers to ensure adequate coverage and care.
Communicates needs for supplies, snacks, etc. to the Children’s Minister or Associate Children’s Minister
Engages children in organized activities while staying in nursery, i.e. age appropriate songs, stories, lessons, crafts, etc.
Maintains good handwashing/hand hygiene after diaper changes and after assisting children with tissues for coughs, sneezes or runny noses.
Ensures safety of the nursery environment, i.e. cleaning products and medications stored out of reach of children, outlet covers on electrical outlets, etc.
Dependability is essential, tardiness and excessive unscheduled absences may result in termination of employment. There will be a six month probationary period where either party may with two weeks notice, terminate employment without cause. Paid Nursery workers are expected to work holidays that fall on Sunday and may be asked to work additional hours during busy times, i.e. Holy week.
Qualifications
A personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
Prior experience caring for infants and toddlers (preferred).
Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Must pass a background check and complete MinistrySafe training.
Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Ability to physically care for small children, including lifting up to 30 lbs.

The Nursery Worker position is considered a ministerial role and is expected to perform functions that exercise and express the religious character and mission of Christ Church Birmingham and the Global Methodist Church. As part of this role, the Nursery Worker will be required to adhere to Christ Church Birmingham’s statement of faith in lifestyle and conduct and will be expected to regularly engage in activities in which the employee’s belief in and adherence to Christ Church Birmingham’s statement of faith are an integral part.
