Why did Jesus come "in the flesh"?

Christmas is all about how God has come to be with us in the person of Jesus. In some mysterious and beautiful way God has taken human nature to himself. In Jesus, deity and humanity are joined inseparable together. But why? Why did Jesus need to come? Why did we need God to show up in the flesh? That's the question we're asking all December at Christ Church Birmingham in our Christmas teaching series. Each sermon will take a well-known nativity text of scripture and consider it alongside a text we don't always think of as a "Christmas passage" in order to open our eyes to the wonder of Jesus in new ways. Here's the schedule.

December 3

His Flesh and God's Face

John 1:1-18; Revelation 22:1-4

December 10

Fully Human and Fully Surrendered

Luke 1:26-38; Philippians 2:5-11

December 17

The Manger and the Mission

Matthew 1:18-25; Colossians 1:15-20

December 24
